Sweeps Week 2010: Sweep Away Your Worries about the Career Expo

By Kate Grove

Welcome back Niner Nation! The fall semester is in full swing and the Peer Career Assistants (PCAs) are back at the University Career Center and back to blogging weekly about everything career related. We’ve been busy spreading the word about the fall Career Expo and Sweeps Week! You probably have a pretty good idea about what the Career Expo is (the UCC’s largest, most attended Career Fair) but, you may be asking yourself, “What is Sweeps Week?” and “How can it help me?” Well the answer is simple, really. The term Sweeps Week comes from the Nielson Media Research Company. This company records the number of viewers a television station gets in one week during each year to determine how much funding those stations will receive for ad campaigns. It is typical that stations will put on their best programming during that week in order to increase the number of viewers so they can receive more funding. Here at the University Career Center we are offering you our own version of “Sweeps Week” to help you get “high ratings” from the employers that are attending Career Expo 2010. Our Sweeps Week will take place September 7-14. It will be a full week of some of the best programming the UCC has to offer all the help you prepare for the fair. Here’s what we have to offer:

September 7 (12:00-12:45p) NinerJobNet Orientation: If you are not already signed up for this free Job and Internship Database, now would be a perfect time. Before the Career Expo you can use NinerJobNet to research employers and explore job openings.
